WORK 03
A functional and sublime landscape
This was another earlier work from my career, from one of my first landscape studios in grad school. We were tasked with understanding and studying the urban context of Knoxville, TN and the highway system.

Each of us were assigned a location, an intersection on the highways to study. After documenting it, we developed a design to make the landscape spectacular or a spectacle, something I tried to accomplish through the exaggerated scale of my design. Additionally, I dove into understanding water filtration systems, and created the iconic giant filtration towers.

The name comes from the Scottish word for Moorlands, as I was inspired to create an artificial wetland alongside the towers. Knoxville was originally home to several wetlands that were destroyed as the city was redeveloped. A secondary goal of the project was to return some of that habitat.
