Zhongshan Shipyard Park
and the Hybrid Drawings were part of collaborative effort. This was a case study on the Zhongshan Shipyard Park. Or, as some people may know it better as: The Qijiang Industrial Park, 齐江公园, or Qí jiāng gōngyuán. It is located in the Guangdong Province of China. As the name suggests, it was originally a shipyard, built in the 1950’s that went bankrupt during the 1990’s. During a revitalization movement, it was re-developed into a park by Kongjian Yu, trying to both embrace the history and bring beauty into the area.
It ended up as a quaint riverfront park, located across from an upcoming district. Artistic structural elements were included on the site, jutting out among the landscape, in captivatingly bright colors. Each was designed to represent one of the former buildings or elements of the former shipyard. Standing where the originals once stood, these statutes tower over the park, maintaining a quiet vigil over the water.
For this project, my teammate Zachary Cary focused on creating the site plan, based on the information that the team gathered. I focused on creating the architecture of the structures. Working together, the focus would be on developing a deeper understanding of the case study, and later creating drawings that would best represent this historic location. Afterwards, we started working independently, at which point I created the hybrid drawings included on this post, exploring the site further through deconstruction.
As this was also an earlier project during my grad school career, and it allowed us to explore different drawing types and programs.
