Studio Mozambique

Studio Mozambique was a collaborative effort with my partner, for Studio Fall 2020. This project, “Proposal for Hlauleka Secondary School, in Chokwe, Mozambique was an inviting challenge that focused on blending a mixture of contemporary and ecological initiatives.  Our group project goal was to focus on creating a new campus that would one day be joined with together with the existing Hlauleka School led by Sybil Baloyi, and embraced the mission and ministry of the school, ecosystem, region, and site.  The resulting campus design is a mixture of interior and exterior spaces, that through the application of trusses, courtyards, and green spaces blends the edges of the project. Turning this project from Interior VS Exterior to Interior AND Exterior. The overall design of the buildings are pulled from the idea of the porch and pavilion, which implies and encourages the flexibility of the design. The site is organized around ‘nodes’ and ‘zones’, working exclusively with the materials found available in the region. With a rich landscape, designed to ensnare the senses, be ecologically friendly, with minimized hardscape, this campus invites all users to come enjoy a leisurely day.
